Daniel Craig was born in Chester (West England, near Wales) on March 02, 1968. His parents are the metalworker Timothy John Wroughton Craig and his wife and art teacher Olivia Dana Williams Craig. His mother moved with Daniel Craig and his sister Lea, first to Liverpool, then to the nearby town of Wirral. There, her mother marries the famous blond Max, who discovers her mimetic streak with Daniel Craig.
Faced with so much art around him, the lively boy looks for a sport of balance and finds one, “rugby”. At the age of 16, Daniel Craig moved to London, where he began to take an interest in art. He joined the “National Youth Theatre” for a few years. Between 1988 and 1991, he also took acting classes at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
Daniel Craig in love with Heike Makatsch
Via the theater, Daniel Craig finally finds himself in the film in 1992, he gives his debate in the political social drama “In the sunshine” with Morgan Freeman and Armin Mueller-Stahl. But at the beginning of his career, Daniel Craig appears in television productions and second-rate feature films. Erwähnenswert is only the French-German drama film of 1997. It is an obsession that revolves around a piquant love triangle between the Berlin musician Miriam Auerbach (Heike Makatsch), the French doctor Pierre Moulin (Charles Berling) and the English craftsman John MacHale (Daniel Craig). In this film, the three protagonists are offered by the critics. At least Heike Makatsch and Daniel Craig do not play a big role. In fact, the two know each other and love each other during the shooting of Obsession. Heike Makatsch even moves with Daniel Craig to London and from there her acting career in Germany is alive and well. Their relationship ends in 2004, then Heike Makatsch moves to Berlin.
In 1998, Daniel Craig was allowed to participate in the history film Elizabeth (with Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush), but in a very ignoble role, that of John Ballard, the conspiracy wire puller against Queen Elizabeth I. After the history film, Daniel Craig continued to make films, but the real international highlights are very rare and in this country he is only known as the man next to Heike Makatsch. The first real international eye-catcher was Daniel Craig in 2001, when he impersonated the somewhat shady friend Alex West of Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) in Lara Croft “Tomb Raider”. No less shady, but for that, Daniel Craig’s role as the son of a mob boss in the gangster revenge drama Road to Perdition (2002; starring Paul Newman, Tom Hanks and Jude Law) is even more important.
Daniel Craig is James Bond 007 with a license to kill
After the two Lara Croft blockbusters “Tomb Raider” and “Road to Perdition”, Daniel Craig’s film career starts slowly. Daniel Craig is mostly involved in very solid but commercial films. The highlight of these years, however, is director Steven Spielberg’s terrorist thriller (2005; starring Eric Bana and Geoffrey Rush), which is loosely based on the deadly hostage-taking of Israeli athletes by a “Black September” terrorist group at the 1972 Olympic Games. Daniel Craig mimes an agent for the first time, but of the Israeli secret service Mossad.
Despite some respectable cinematic successes of Daniel Craig, his appointment on October 14, 2005 at a press conference in London with all the secret agents, as well as the successor of the actor of James Bond Pierce Brosnan, reserved a surprise of which the English press and fans of 007 around the world. Even calls for a boycott are heard. But Daniel Craig punishes in Casino Royale all his critics. After the premiere of Casino Royale (2006), the press celebrates him as a very talented actor, physically. Daniel Craig is also the first James Bond actor to receive a nomination for best lead actor (in Casino Royale). After the James Bond movie, no one doubts the competence of Daniel Craig in 007 anymore. After all, Casino Royale with the Bond girl Eva Green, the villain Mads Mikkelsen and the head of MI6 Judi Dench, has earned almost 600 million US dollars worldwide.
In 2008 followed the tough but eventful Casino Royale sequel Ein Quantum Trost (starring Mathieu Amalric, Olga Kurylenko and Gemma Arterton), directed by German director Marc Forster, but very mixed among the fan community. In 2012, the third Bond thriller starring Daniel Craig was released under the title Skyfall. In this captivating 007 film, Daniel Craig as James Bond against Javier Bardem aka Raoul Silva.
It continued in 2015 with James Bond 007 “Spectre” (starring Seydoux, Monica Bellucci and Ralph Fiennes), which depicts the criminal organization that the first Bond Sean Connery already had to fight with in the 1960s. After his grueling mission against Spectre, Daniel Craig almost wants to give up his license to kill. Bond fans can breathe a sigh of relief, however, because Daniel Craig will definitely shoot another mission in 007. Its release has been scheduled for April 2020.
Daniel Craig in the cinema without a license to kill
Daniel Craig identifies with the fictional character James Bond. Only one thing can help: good films away from the world of 007. Among these works is the fantasy film “The Golden Compass” (2007; with Nicole Kidman, Sam Elliott and Eva Green). The Golden Compass, the first part of Philip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials” fantasy trilogy, is critically acclaimed as the best fantasy film since “The Lord of the Rings” and even comes from the same production company, New Line Cinema. But at the U.S. box office, the $180 million production fell off the charts, earning only $70 million. The Golden Compass outside of North America won $ 300 million, it still wins the production of the other two parts of the novel trilogy away.
After James Bond 007 – A Quantum of Solace in 2008, Daniel Craig plays the lead role in the war action drama Defiance.
Daniel Craig in the current decade
Daniel Craig first of all retires from the cinema for a while. Perhaps the new love of his life, fellow actress Rachel Weisz, has something to do with it. He is officially involved with her since 2010 and is married since June 2011. In the same year, Daniel Craig played the lead role of Jake Lonergan in the sci-fi western Cowboys
The psychological thriller Dream House, in which Daniel Craig plays with two dreamy women, his own Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts, really gives you goosebumps. The female charms remain in the successful horror show, but rather in the background. Daniel Craig concludes his successful film year in 2011 with the adaptation of the novel “Blinding”. In this thriller, Daniel Craig, as disclosure journalist Mikael Blomkvist in Sweden, solves a mysterious series of murders of women with mentally unstable hacker Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara). Blinding is ranked by the American Film Institute as one of the top ten films of 2011.
After an appearance as a storm trooper in Star Wars: The Awakening of the Force (2015; with Daisy Ridley. John Boyega and Harrison Ford), he was cast as a safecracker in 2017 in the hit comedy Logan Lucky (with Adam Driver and Channing Tatum). Apart from that, he is eagerly awaited for October 25, 2019. It brought the James Bond adventure with Daniel Craig into theaters.
